MISSING NYS ELA & MATH TEST SCORES & CORE SUBJECT GRADES:

NYCDOE APPLICANTS – where NYS ELA or Math exam scores and/or 7th or 8th grade core subject scores are not available, an email will be sent to the sending middle school’s guidance counselor to acquire updated information. If the State tests and/or any of the core subject grades are still missing, the most recent score(s) available will be used to make a ranking determination.

PRIVATE/PAROCHIAL

APPLICANTS/OUT-OF-STATE/INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS – who do not have NY State standardized test scores will be  considered if they have nationally normalized standardized examination scores, or  Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics will convert other testing scores for  non-NY State Exams where possible as per the High School Academic Policy Guide.  In addition, Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics will contact the applicant’s current/previous school to obtain documentation (e.g. transcripts, report

Cards, etc.) To determine appropriate corresponding scores in order to provide the student with a rank.

Non Traditional Grade Conversions

For all non-traditional grades listed for any of the core subjects where they exist (e.g., E, F, G, and NL, as well as numerical grades -70, 2, and 9) the school will use the following conversion chart to standardize the core subject grades:

State tests are scaled by using a normal curve for students with IEPs and students receiving ESL services (Bilingual program included). Our ranking process tries to include as many applicants as possible by providing a waiver for a minimum number of outlying grades contingent upon further review of the applicant.
